Characterization of the Solid State Properties of Anodic Oxides on Magnetron Sputtered Ta, Nb and Ta-Nb Alloys
2012
Tantalum oxide, niobium oxide and Ta-Nb containing mixed oxides were grown by anodizing sputter-deposited Ta, Nb and Ta-Nb alloys of different compositions. A photoelectrochemical investigation was performed in order to estimate the band gap and the flat band potential of the oxides as a function of their composition. The band gap of the investigated Ta-Nb containing mixed oxides changed monotonically between those estimated for Ta2O5 (4.1 eV) and Nb2O5 (3.4 eV) and in agreement with a proposed correlation between the Band gap of an oxide and the difference of electronegativity of the oxide constituents. From the differential capacitance curves recorded in a wide range of electrode potentia…
Buffer-gas-free mass-selective ion centering in Penning traps by simultaneous dipolar excitation of magnetron motion and quadrupolar excitation for i…
2012
A new excitation scheme of the radial ion-motional modes is introduced for Penning-trap ion-cyclotron-resonance experiments. By simultaneous dipolar excitation of the magnetron motion and resonant quadrupolar excitation for the conversion between magnetron motion and cyclotron motion, a mass-selective recentering of the ions of interest is performed while all other (contaminant) ions are ejected from the trap. This new technique does not rely on the application of a buffer gas as presently used [G. Savard, St. Becker, G. Bollen, H.-J. Kluge, R.B. Moore, Th. Otto, L Schweikhard, H. Stolzenberg, U. Wiess, Physics Letters A 158 (1991) 247] and will thus prevent charge-exchange reactions and da…
Preparation by radio-frequency magnetron co-sputtering and characterization of thin films of lanthanum–strontium ferromanganites
2005
Abstract (La 0.8 Sr 0.2 )(Mn 1 − y Fe y )O 3 ± δ films with y = 0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8 and 1, a few hundred nanometers thick, were deposited onto polycrystalline yttria-stabilized zirconia YSZ by a magnetron co-sputtering technique using individual targets of La 0.8 Sr 0.2 MnO 3 and La 0.8 Sr 0.2 FeO 3 . The deposition parameters, substrate temperature and gas pressure, were studied by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, X-ray diffraction and interferential microscopy for their effects on the morphological, chemical, topographic and crystallographic properties of films and YSZ-film interfaces. (La 0.8 Sr 0.2 )(Mn 1 − y Fe y )O 3 ± δ thin films were found to be …
RF magnetron-sputtered coatings deposited from biphasic calcium phosphate targets for biomedical implant applications
2017
Bioactive calcium phosphate coatings were deposited by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering from biphasic targets of hydroxyapatite and tricalcium phosphate, sintered at different mass % ratios. According to Raman scattering and X-ray diffraction data, the deposited hydroxyapatite coatings have a disordered structure. High-temperature treatment of the coatings in air leads to a transformation of the quasi-amorphous structure into a crystalline one. A correlation has been observed between the increase in the Ca content in the coatings and a subsequent decrease in Ca in the biphasic targets after a series of deposition processes. It was proposed that the addition of tricalcium phosphate to th…

Electrochemical Fabrication and Physicochemical Characterization of Metal/High-k Insulating Oxide/Polymer/Electrolyte Junctions
2014
Photoelectrochemical polymerization of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), PEDOT, was successfully realized on anodic film grown to 50 V on magnetron sputtered Ti-6 atom % Si alloys. Scanning electron microscopy allowed us to evidence formation of compact and uniform polymer layers on the oxide surface. Photoelectrochemical and impedance measurements showed that photopolymerization allows one to grow PEDOT in its conducting state, while a strong cathodic polarization is necessary to bring the polymer in its p-type semiconducting state. Information on the optical and electrical properties of metal/oxide/polymer/electrolyte junctions proves that PEDOT has promising performance as an electrolyte…
In-situ electrochemical atomic force microscopy study of aging of magnetron sputtered Pt-Co nanoalloy thin films during accelerated degradation test
2016
Abstract A Pt-Co nanoalloy thin film catalyst was prepared by using simultaneous magnetron sputtering of Pt and Co. The catalyst was characterized during accelerated degradation test using in-situ electrochemical atomic force microscopy complemented with ex-situ techniques such as energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and synchrotron radiation photoelectron spectroscopy. The combined results gave the full step-by-step picture of the catalyst behavior during the aging test.
Structural characterization of mixed Ta–Re oxide films
2006
Thin films of mixed Ta and Re oxides have been produced by reactive dc magnetron co-sputtering of pure Ta and Re metal targets in Ar–O2 atmosphere. The structural evolution of these films has been studied as a function of the composition, starting from a pure tantalum oxide film up to about 82% rhenium content. The composition and the structure of the films have been investigated by using X-ray diffraction and micro-Raman spectroscopy. For low Re content (20%), islands of a well crystallized phase, based on ReO4 groups, appear in the films still composed by pure amorphous tantalum oxide, while a mixed disordered solid phase is found for the highest Re concentration (82%). © 2006 Elsevier B.…
A new method of nanocrystalline nickel powder formation by magnetron sputtering on the water-soluble substrates
2018
Due to the accurate and relatively easy control magnetron sputtering is an attractive technique for the synthesis of metallic particles. This work describes a new method of nickel powder production by depositing nickel on the surface of sodium chloride particles which were used as the template and are soluble in water. Ni powder with flake-like structure was obtained after washing Ni coated salt particles in ultrasonic cleaner. Salt particles and nickel powder were characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive x-ray spectrometer, XRD and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. SEM images showed that thickness of the received Ni particles varied in the …
Electrochromic Devices Incorporating Cr Oxide And Ni Oxide Films:
2000
Abstract Transparent films of Cr oxide and Ni oxide were made by reactive DC magnetron sputtering in Ar+O2+H2. They displayed anodic electrochromism with charge capacities similar to that of W oxide. Cr oxide was stable in acidic environments, while Ni oxide was stable in basic environments. Electrochromic devices were made with pristine Cr oxide or Ni oxide films operating in conjunction with W oxide and a proton conducting electrolyte. Of the two oxides, Cr oxide film allowed device operation at a lower voltage span, while the device with Ni oxide film yielded a higher transmittance in the bleached state, a larger absorptance modulation, and a more neutral color.
